Día de las Madres

Día de las Madres (2020) is an undistributed personal project made with my friend Moises Barba.

My roles: Co-director • Co-producer

In Día de Las Madres, we see the effects of long-term separation on the relationship between a mother and son. Ed (not his real name) immigrated to the US from Mexico 36 years ago. Due to the onset of Parkinson's disease, his mother remained in Jalisco, where she continues to struggle with the effects of her illness. For three decades, the telephone has been their only form of contact. Structured around a phone call on Mother's Day and shot simultaneously in two countries, Día de las Madres captures the similarity and disparity in the lives of two loved ones who yearn to see each other before their passing.
